What Did I Plant?

Have you ever thrown some seeds out in the garden not really expecting anything to come up and then uh oh, what the heck are those? Well maybe you don't do that but Tina here sure did and I have no clue what these guys are. They have thorns and have developed these cute little yellow flowers. I could only get one picture as it is raining cats and dogs out there today, but the leaf is quite distinctive so I should be able to track it down. Or if someone has an idea please do let me know...:) They are trying valiantly to claim a spot amidst the sunflowers which usually take over at some point in the summer. So I am going to try giving them some breathing space and see what develops.

  1. I have no idea what this is. But the picture is pretty. I like the drops of rain on your plant.

  2. Hi Tina - I have just discovered your blog and I am enjoying your gardens. I am an amateur gardener myself and I see some similarities in our plantings. Sorry I can't help to identify the yellow plant though!

  3. Hi Tina! Thanks for commenting on my blog! You mentioned you had not seen the striped Sweet Peas. They're Burpee - off the rack, forget what kind.

That mystery plant looks like some sort of (wild?) squash or cucumber. That's what the flowers remind me of. Good luck!

  4. I would be interested to know what your yellow blooms are the leaves do remind me of something but not with thorns. Trish

  5. Hi Granny and thanks for dropping by! You know that since I took that picture they have not changed one bit. They are the same size and the flowers look exactly the same. I have wracked my brain trying to remember what I had in my seed stash and the only thing I can think of is I had some Evening Primrose seeds and quite a few different gourd seeds, but I just don't remember which ones I threw where. No one seems to have any idea either so if you ever do remember what you think they are please let me know...:)
