Rain!

4 or 5 days of rain they say....phewy! Just when I finally started to clean out the beds and had decided on red geraniums as the predominant annual, here comes the disappointing forecast. Oh well as long as it doesn't rain non-stop all summer as it did most of last year I will not give up my vision for this year!

First Garden Purchase of 2010!

I am always excited to see the first garden offerings at stores. I feel my heart beating faster and my palms start to itch and then going through the struggle to figure out just where I want to put them! I know there are many more to come (wallet allowing) not to mention all those seeds I have been hoarding and the perennials that staked their claim last year. It's all too, too exciting! I'm starting to feel like the white rabbit in "Alice in Wonderland" I'm late, I'm late for a very important date.

The Saddest Sight

                    I almost couldn't post this. This is a tragedy and the only thing that saves it from disaster are the little seedlings peeking their heads through the soil. And so it begins for the summer.....the struggle with weeds, celebrating as the first flowers dare to unfurl, the experiments gone horribly wrong (wild roses planted 2 years ago) Never again! But the half dead peonies a neighbor gave me last year, that looked like goners, have broken through the dirt and look like they are going to be real garden winners this year. I have Lupine seeds from another friend that will be replacing the wild roses. Now to open the storage box and check on the Dahlias, yikes!

Glamour 1944

I just love the way actresses looked in the 40's. So put together, up swept do and ruby red lipstick...sigh! I happen to have a few of my mothers old movie mags and I just had to give this lady a try. Alexis Smith was a well known actress in the 40's and this cover shot is from Screenland February 1944 edition. Note the huge corsage! Wow! I may have to try more of these.

Spring Cleaning

How wonderful it is to finally see the temps creeping up again. I can almost hear the seeds cracking open and small green shoots preparing to break the surface of the soil.
I have a small garden, mostly ornamental, but each year small or not I put my heart and soul into it. This year I will be keeping an online diary of the garden in this blog and plan on posting pictures at least 3-4 times a week. I do hope that other gardeners will feel inclined to join me and post a comment or two on occasion. Here's to a new year and new plant adventures!
