What Did I Plant?

Have you ever thrown some seeds out in the garden not really expecting anything to come up and then uh oh, what the heck are those? Well maybe you don't do that but Tina here sure did and I have no clue what these guys are. They have thorns and have developed these cute little yellow flowers. I could only get one picture as it is raining cats and dogs out there today, but the leaf is quite distinctive so I should be able to track it down. Or if someone has an idea please do let me know...:) They are trying valiantly to claim a spot amidst the sunflowers which usually take over at some point in the summer. So I am going to try giving them some breathing space and see what develops.

Daylily Dawn

I was so happy today when I saw that the Daylilies were opening at last. It had been raining all last night so they were covered in lovely water drops and they just looked so perfect I had to get a photo or two. I do wish they lasted a little more than a day each flower, but there are plenty this year so I should have blooms for a few weeks, That will give the Sunflowers and Dahlias a chance to catch up!

Dottie Duck

Large and in charge, that's Dottie Duck! Actually my neighbor Louis who is always "garage sale-ing" found her at a sale all covered in mud and her paint job quite raggedy and gave her to me for my garden. I spent yesterday afternoon cleaning and repainting her and today she gets a good spraying with spar varnish and out into the garden she goes. I think she looks quite sassy, I wonder if the seagulls will be fooled?

Yellow Yellow Everywhere

Finally I have something opening up. The ever lovely Stella D'Oro. I love the rich, buttery yellow of the flowers. In contrast the Yarrow has a more delicate yellow hue not quite as brilliant as the Stella D'Oro, but still cheerful, especially since the sky right now is grey with the promise of the thunderstorm
we are expecting tonight!
Let's hope Sunday will be a prettier day. Have a good evening everyone!

Pansies

I wish it would stop raining for a few moments but I guess the garden needs it so I have to be patient about finishing the weeding. These little sweethearts are in an old planter on the deck so weeding is not a problem with these pretties! And thank goodness for that.
Note the forlorn picnic table in the background still waiting for that new coat of white paint...*sigh*

Mickey

Yes I have gotten a picture of the rare and elusive Cat Bird hiding in it's usual habitat....the bird feeder! When spotted it can jump with incredible swiftness for the tall grass thereby eluding capture!
This silly fool is Mickey, who loves the garden and spends most of his time hiding in the tall grasses on the edge but for some strange reason he thought this might be a good spot to harass the birds. The birds of course are not that stupid so he wasted his time, but made a cute picture.

What a happy thing to come outside after a big rain and find tiny treasures like this little guy having a feast on the Comfrey flowers!
Ahhh that we could all survive on the sweet nectar provided by nature.....
I'm not sure what kind of butterfly he/she is, but it was lovely!
